#2: the newhouse

these pieces were inspired by and are, in varying degrees, responses to the music of ali farke toure. each track, while lacking (nearly all of) the technical abilities of toure, still strives after his musical essence: joy, melody, and a deceptively simple communication. they were made while at the marin headlands in california, using toy and junk instruments available at the time. additionally, each piece (aside from the intro and coda) is named after a friend who gave/loaned those very junk and vintage instruments. except: "benjamin" was the name of the guitar used (found in a closet, the bag it came in had the name written on it in sharpie).

these pieces were started in the summer of 2005 and finished in early 2006. i have been sitting on them too long (that is, not sharing them), and, if they are to have any worth at all, i need to give them away. you know, like a gift.
